Synchronous delivery in teaching can be a great way to engage students from anywhere, however, it still requires that everyone meets up at the same time, has the correct devices and equipment, and has the time to dedicate to the meeting. Online courses, on the other hand, can be set up to be completed from anywhere with no reliance on time. Students have the ability to complete their learning from wherever they feel most comfortable and aren’t forced to study during certain times of the day. This helps learners who may be working jobs and raising families while they study.
If I had the choice, I would prefer to use online delivery in an asynchronous environment in order to not put time constraints on my students. This also serves as a benefit to me as the instruction, as I don’t have to dedicate certain hours during the day. I can also reuse the course content and only update as information and requirements change. This is very helpful when teaching remotely. My hours can be dedicated toward helping students understand, rather than just lecturing.
